Our school was founded in 1997 by a group of parents enthusiastic about Waldorf pedagogy. The school was formally inaugurated at a modest ceremony that took place in a family home at the Eastern end (17th district) of Budapest. After an eventful seven-year search for a permanent school building, we managed to buy a former community centre in the 16th district (called Sashalom), a quiet garden city area of Budapest. Currently we are an elementary school with grades one to eight. However, we are also working on extending our system to continue education up to grade thirteen.
The mission of Rákosmenti Waldorf School’s faculty, staff, students, parents and community is to provide education in the spirit of Rudolf Steiner’s Waldorf pedagogy founded in 1919.
Our guiding principles are
Another main objective of the Waldorf method is to arouse children’s fondness of learning without inducing competition. Our curriculum is a balanced combination of theoretical subjects, artistic and practical activities.
Parent involvement is a cornerstone of Waldorf schools. RWS teachers and parents join forces in operating and developing the school as well as working for our students.
Currently our most important school development project is to launch high school education (grades nine to thirteen). To this end RWS will need to enlarge its building and remodel its school yard, in addition of course to expanding its curriculum.
